Press Room Manager - Large-Format Operations
JOB PURPOSE:
The Garvey Group is seeking a high energy individual to be our Press Room Manager for our Niles, Illinois large-format printing operation. You will supervise our team of operators that runs our 3 large format presses, cutting operation, and shipping department.
The right person for this job will have a strong working knowledge of sheet fed lithography and a proven history of leading teams and accomplishing goals.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Very experienced with the concepts and processes used for color management in the press room, including G7 and L*a*b.
- Understanding of the inter-relationship of printing and finishing processes, especially die-cutting.
- Proficient with PC programs, especially MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
- Proficient with printing industry management systems (PSI).
- Excellent math skills for job production planning and measuring production results. Familiarity with basic statistics is a plus.
- Experience with KBA large-format presses preferred but not required.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Good writing and speaking skills for the accurate communication of information to operators, management and clients.
- Proficiency and comfort in making group presentations to operations staff.
- Understanding of when to use email and when to have a face to face conversation.
SUPERVISORY SKILLS
- Establish and maintain positive attitudes and behaviors in the press room.
- Set and accomplish goals, both individual goals and group goals.
- Coach individuals to improve performance.
- Provide constructive feedback about performance to operators.
KNOWLEDGE
- Outstanding knowledge of the concepts and practices in sheet fed offset lithography, including conventional and UV techniques.
- Thorough understanding of safety practices, including OSHA regulations for the printing industry, lock out/tag out procedures and hazardous material handling.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts.
ABILITIES
- Work with clients and sales staff during press approvals to insure we meet client requirements.
- Effectively judge the performance of others and provide helpful coaching feedback.
- Maintain composure when working in high pressure situations.
- Respond constructively to unexpected client requests or production issues that result in changing priorities.
